I’ve recently moved into a new flat and it seems there’s a never ending list of things that need doing… and it’s all fairly mundane stuff as well, which doesn’t help.
I’ve been having to sort out council tax (and checking that the calculations I’ve received are correct), making sure I’m registered to vote at my new address, terminating my old gas account, signing up for a new electricity account (after perusing and comparing the various tariffs), sorting out my water account (and wondering just where on Earth the water meter cupboard is in this building), updating my address on my driver’s license, bank account and too many other things to remember, attending residents meetings…
The point is that I’ve been a little busy of late, but I think it’s beginning to settle down.
Sort of.
I found some time yesterday to try baking some bread, which seemed like a good idea given that I had no bread. It might be the in thing to cut carbs, but I’m not doing that myself yet, so I set about following a recipe for Easy White Bread – I mean, it’s easy right? Sounds like my kind of recipe.
Here are the fruits of my labour:
Not too shabby, eh? I can confirm that it tastes like bread and is, in fact, much nicer than a typical loaf of bread which you might buy in a supermarket. Nothing too surprising about that though. It’s also nice that I know exactly what went into this bread, of which salt was only a small part – probably far less per slice than a supermarket loaf. It’s also nice knowing what didn’t go into this loaf, such as the old packet of opened yeast I “discovered”… not a pleasant discovery by any means. Ick.
The only downside to making bread is that it’s very labour intensive, taking a little too long to be something that I’d want to do regularly. This loaf should keep me going for a few days though.
